Who is the GWRRA? We are your next door neighbor. Your associate at work. Your doctor. Your child's teacher. People from all walks of life have come together to make the GWRRA what it is an organization that makes no social or political demands on its participants, other than to allow them the opportunity to have the time of their life, enjoying the most exciting means of transportation ever invented.

GWRRA is organized by Region, District (State), and Chapter. The Virginia District is part of Region "N" - The Appalachian Region - (Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee) and has some 21 Chapters in all areas of the state with over 1600 participants. This year, the GWRRA national rally, "Wing Ding" as it is called, will be held in Des Moines, IA, and will draw some 10,000+ attendees. The North Carolina Rally ("Wings Over the Smokies") at Fletcher will draw in excess of 5,000 people, and the Virginia District Rally ("Rally in the Valley") in Salem, will have approximately 750 in attendance. Many Canadian Districts and Regions hold their own rallies. An International Rally was held in Australia during the summer of 1995, and other rallies are held around the world at various times and locations.

In recent years, GWRRA Chapters state wide have raised thousands of dollars for Sgt. Santa and provided walk marshalling, communications, and accounting services for the Multiple Sclerosis Society's MS-Walk in Richmond, Emporia, and Fredericksburg. They annually hold events for nursing homes, children's homes and other community service organizations. In 1996, 1998, and 2000 the GWRRA chapters throughout the state helped raise over $1.4 million dollars to support the Pony Express Tours 96, 98 and 2000, the National Womens' Relay Rides for Breast Cancer Research. Numerous other activities have been held throughout the year by all of the 22 Virginia Chapters of GWRRA.

The GWRRA encourages rider safety by promoting the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Rider Education Programs. Each chapter has an Educator whose job it is to oversee local participation in the GWRRA Rider Safety Program, and provide safety instruction at our Chapter get-togethers. Nationally in 1994, through 4,918 seminars and riding courses, the GWRRA reached 145,645 motorcyclists with its message of motorcycle safety.

In six of the last seven years, GWRRA has been recognized by the MSF, for its efforts.
